Lead Server Developer

We are hiring new talents to join us and we're looking for a Lead Server Developer. Preferably, you are a generalist with relatively big amount of relevant experience from your previous positions.

Notava was founded in 2009 and at the moment we have offices in three locations -  in Helsinki and Tampere, Finland and in Tokyo, Japan. Notava is building a solution for mobile data offloading and we aim to provide better user experience for mobile data users and disruptive new business opportunities for wireless service providers. Our solution consists of a server backend software and mobile client software for all major platforms including iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Symbian, and Windows Phone.

We are rapidly growing and are ready to make a big global breakthrough during 2012. We are playing the game in extremely challenging telecommunications industry environment and most of our clients are international. Luckily, our team has enormous amount of experience from telecom industry and you will have a drivers seat to be part of our global success in providing Wi-Fi offloading world wide.

Key responsibilities

You will be responsible of our server software development and be our main server architect.  You will be making technology selections, designing and improving our APIs and be the lead developer. Passion for going large scale is a must since you aim for reliable, highly scalable service supporting millions of users. We run our servers on Linux.

Preferred qualifications

  • Enthusiasm and good social skills
  • Masters degree or equivalent education and at least three years of experience in relevant positions
  • 5+ years of previous programming experience (at least one of JAVA, Python, Ruby, or PHP, and C/C++)
  • Proven record of experience in architecting, designing, implementing, and deploying distributed enterprise server software
  • Experience with industry standard application frameworks and -servers
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Familiarity with scalability, traffic optimization issues, and security
  • Ability to justify design choices and document your work
  • Being self-starter

We also appreciate

  • Understanding IEEE 802.11 technologies and protocols
  • Prior knowledge from telecom EPC/BSS/OSS/OCS systems
  • Knowledge of cloud architectures and virtualization
  • Any previous work publicly available on the Internet
  • Familiarity with web front end technologies
